DOVE Mining Projects
INTRODUCTION
DOVE mining operations in Kenya started in 2003, in cooperation with Megalith Mining Co., with the primary focus on the exploration and exploitation of precious stones, including Tsavorite, Rubies, Garnet, and Zircon.
The mining operations were based on a major concession in Tsavo (Savo) National Park, near the Tanzanian border. This area is known for its rich gemstone deposits, but also for its harsh and extremely dry climate.
To develop these deposits, DOVE conducted two separate projects, installing two state-of-the-art processing plants inside the Tsavo concession.
Government Relations & Recognition
- Established cooperation with the Ministry of Mining and Geology and relevant regional authorities.
- Partnered with Megalith Mining Co. to ensure compliance with Kenyan mining regulations and smooth project execution.
- Maintained engagement with local communities and cooperatives, ensuring socially responsible operations.
- Recognized as a pioneering international partner supporting the modernization of Kenya’s gemstone industry.
1. DOVE Dry Processing plant
- Installed the first mechanized dry processing plant inside Tsavo concession.
- Designed specifically for the recovery of precious and semi-precious gemstones.
- Achieved a total processing capacity of 120 Tons/Hour of dry ore.
- Enabled efficient recovery without reliance on water supply in the arid environment.
2. DOVE EXPLORER® processing plant
- Installed the DOVE EXPLORER® processing plant, a mobile and versatile gravity separation system.
- Designed for recovery of precious stones by gravity concentration.
- Achieved a total processing capacity of 150 Tons/Hour.
- To overcome the severe water scarcity in Tsavo:
♦ Two boreholes were constructed to secure reliable water supply.
♦ Water was pumped into a specially designed reservoir lined with heavy-duty plastic, preventing seepage.
♦ The processing plant was engineered to recirculate water, ensuring zero wastage and sustainable use in the arid environment.
Precious Stone Projects
Tsavorite Garnet
- Conducted exploration and exploitation of Tsavorite, East Africa’s rare and valuable green garnet.
- Enhanced yields through mechanized recovery and grading systems.
- Positioned Kenya as a leading global source of Tsavorite.
Rubies
- Discovered and developed ruby deposits, introducing mechanized earthmoving and recovery systems.
- Improved recovery rates and expanded Kenya’s role in the global ruby trade.
Garnet and Zircon
- Engaged in exploration and recovery of industrial and gem-quality garnets.
- Developed Zircon deposits, applying advanced sorting and processing technologies.
- Contributed to the diversification of Kenya’s gemstone exports.
Legacy & Impact
- First introduction of two large-scale mechanized gemstone processing plants in Kenya (2003).
- Expanded international recognition of Kenya’s gemstones, particularly Tsavorite and Rubies.
- Set a new standard in sustainable water management for arid-region mining.
- Strengthened Kenya’s role in the global colored gemstone supply chain.
- Contributed to job creation, technology transfer, and community development.
- Cemented DOVE’s reputation as a trusted international partner in East Africa’s mining sector.
